Our peloids deposit (total area – 144 h) was formed 13 000 years ago at the watershed between the Black and the Baltic seas.
Our peloids deposit can be considered as a very unique water reservoir in Europe having a 25-meter silt layer which contains 70-90 % of differently transformed organic substances.
The total quantity of peloids is 6 000 000 m³. The annual increase of organic matter sedimentations is about 20 000 m³.
3 000 years ago the lake development was determined by oxygen deficiency resulted in protococcal algae increase and simultaneous destruction of stable bio-structures in humic acids, which finally led to light-brown peloid layer formation.
Peloid Black
Black peloids began to accumulate with the good aeration of the bottom of the lake with the participation of diatomic algae and other water plants. This is evidenced by the depth of the processes of biochemical decomposition and transformation of biomass, an increase in the proportion of minerals and accumulation of humic acids, which gave the sediments their black color. Black peloids formed 5,000 years ago.
Peloid Green
Then the lake began to form green peloids. Precipitations accumulated due to blue-green algae. The shift of oxygen and nutrient delivery had little effect on biomass degradation and brought about a small rate of humic acids and minerals (9-15 %) in the mud. Green peloids formed about 3500 years ago.
Our deposit contains peloids consisting of 70-90% of organic substances.
Therefore, the lake is considered as a medicinal resource and the use of peloids is allowed only as therapeutic muds, ingredients for the medical and cosmetic industries.
These facts give a reason to consider the Deposit one of the unique in Europe.
